Advancing Excellence in Colorectal Surgery Through Innovation, Research, and Education
The Division of Colorectal Surgery at Brown University is committed to delivering outstanding patient care while advancing the field through surgical innovation, multidisciplinary collaboration, and academic excellence. Our faculty provide comprehensive care for patients with benign and malignant diseases of the colon, rectum, and anus while educating the next generation of surgeons.
As part of Brown University Health and The Warren Alpert Medical School, the Division works alongside specialists in gastroenterology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, radiology, and pelvic floor medicine to provide coordinated, evidence-based care across the full spectrum of colorectal disease.
Education is central to our mission. Medical students, general surgery residents, and colorectal surgery fellows gain broad clinical exposure to minimally invasive, robotic, laparoscopic, and complex open procedures while participating in multidisciplinary conferences, quality improvement initiatives, and clinical research. Trainees develop expertise in the management of colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticular disease, pelvic floor disorders, anorectal disease, and advanced endoscopic techniques.
Our faculty are actively engaged in clinical investigation and outcomes research focused on improving surgical techniques, enhancing recovery, and advancing patient-centered care. Through close mentorship and scholarly collaboration, learners are encouraged to pursue research, present at national meetings, and develop the academic skills necessary for successful careers in colorectal surgery.
The Division provides an exceptional environment for residents and fellows seeking comprehensive surgical training, meaningful research opportunities, and mentorship within a collaborative academic medical center.
