MD Training - Years III and IV

Year III marks the beginning of the clinical component of the undergraduate medical education program. All students must complete a 6- week surgery core clerkship or Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship (LIC).

Third-Year Clerkship

Core clerkships and the selective clerkships must be taken under the direct, personal supervision of Brown faculty;  no exceptions are permitted. Other courses should not be scheduled concurrently with a required core clerkship, and ambulatory longitudinal clerkships are no longer permitted during this rotation.

Fourth-Year Electives and Sub-Internships

There is a wide variety of elective opportunities in general pediatric, vascular, transplant, and colorectal surgery. In planning electives, students should consult faculty members and staff to discuss a plan for electives that corresponds to their career goals and interests. Please refer to the Oasis course catalog (requires login) for all current elective and sub-I offerings.
