The Division of Surgical Oncology at Brown University is dedicated to advancing the treatment of cancer through exceptional surgical care, innovative research, and comprehensive education. Our faculty provide specialized expertise across a broad range of malignancies while training the next generation of academic surgeons in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
As members of Brown University Health and The Warren Alpert Medical School, our surgeons work closely with medical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, radiology, gastroenterology, plastic surgery, genetics, and other specialists to develop individualized, evidence-based treatment plans for patients with both common and complex cancers. This multidisciplinary approach provides trainees with a comprehensive understanding of modern cancer care and the critical role of surgery within the oncology care continuum.
Medical students, residents, and fellows gain experience in the surgical management of breast cancer, melanoma, endocrine tumors, hepatopancreatobiliary malignancies, gastrointestinal cancers, liver tumors, and other complex oncologic diseases. Trainees participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards, advanced operative procedures, clinical research, and quality improvement initiatives while learning from faculty recognized for their expertise in surgical oncology.
Research and innovation are fundamental to the Division's mission. Faculty actively pursue clinical investigation, translational research, and collaborative studies that improve cancer outcomes, expand treatment options, and advance the science of surgical oncology. Learners are encouraged to engage in scholarly activity, present their work nationally, and develop the academic foundation necessary for careers in surgical oncology and cancer research.
The Division of Surgical Oncology offers a dynamic academic environment where clinical excellence, scientific discovery, and mentorship prepare future surgeons to lead the advancement of cancer care.
