Chanell Bourne, MD
Biography
Hometown: Calvert County Maryland
Undergraduate: Towson University
Medical School: Ross University School of Medicine
Why did you choose Brown:
Serving diverse and medically underserved communities is of the utmost importance to me. Brown’s embrace of diversity and cultural awareness in medicine gives me the opportunity to practice global health locally. I look forward to gaining invaluable experiences that motivate me to look at medicine through a different lens, and diversify my educational surgical training. Furthermore, Brown’s push for personal development through exploration towards either a clinical or a more academic career is why I chose this program over others. It gives residents the autonomy to actively explore their professional desires. Most importantly, the early emphasis on tracking the resident technical skills progress aligns with my desire to become a competent surgeon.
Favorite things about Providence and RI:
Obtaining a position at Brown University lead me to discovering that I had family in the area. I am most looking forward to creating a bond with them, exploring RI, and learning more about my family roots. Also, being from Maryland where the blue crab is its most prized possession, I cannot wait to experience the wonderful seafood RI has to offer.
Plans for the future:
Although I have an open mind to wherever my experiences drive me toward, I am currently interested in minimally invasive surgery. The technological advances in surgery are vast, and I want to have a front row seat.
